As the sun dipped behind the ancient walls of Cardiff Castle, Bastille proved that some anthems never lose their power. Returning to the Welsh capital as part of TK Maxx presents Depot Live, the multi-platinum indie-pop outfit delivered a set packed with the soaring singalongs and emotional highs that have defined their career for more than a decade.

Frontman Dan Smith, joined by Kyle Simmons, Will Farquarson and Chris ‘Woody’ Wood, looked right at home on the historic stage, following their previous appearance at the venue in 2023 with another confident, crowd-pleasing performance. Launching into Things We Lost In The Fire, the quartet wasted little time reminding fans why their catalogue has endured. The euphoric rush of Good Grief and the heartfelt nostalgia of Flaws kept the audience firmly in the palm of their hand, while the irresistible medley Of The Night sparked one of the evening's biggest communal singalongs. Naturally, there was only one way to end the night, with the generation-defining Pompeii transforming Cardiff Castle into a sea of raised voices long after the final chorus faded. Support came from rising singer-songwriter Arthur Hill, whose tongue-in-cheek T-shirt paid tribute to Welsh icon Sir Tom Jones, earning plenty of smiles before he even played a note. Opening the evening was Portuguese-Canadian newcomer Sofia Camara, who impressed early arrivals with a polished set that hinted at an artist on the rise. The show formed part of the biggest-ever edition of TK Maxx presents Depot Live at Cardiff Castle, with 24 headline concerts bringing some of music's biggest names to the iconic venue throughout the summer. Next up is David Gray, as the series continues to cement Cardiff Castle as one of the UK's most spectacular live music settings.
