Getdown Services - Cha Cha Slide - New Single

Story by Ben Avery

15/07/2026

Bristol’s brilliantly off-kilter duo reveal their most vulnerable side yet, pairing emotional honesty with the wry absurdity that defines them.

If anyone still thought Getdown Services were simply peddling novelty tunes wrapped in chaotic humour, Cha Cha Slide should put that misconception firmly to bed. The latest preview of forthcoming album Massive Champion sees the Bristol duo dial back the usual anarchic grin in favour of something unexpectedly tender, proving there's far more beneath the surface than knowing punchlines and deadpan wit. Following previous single I Can’t Die Like That, the track finds Josh Law and Ben Sadler exploring social anxiety, self-doubt and the awkward business of trying to understand where you fit in. Law describes it as the band's saddest song to date, reflecting on childhood insecurities that stubbornly linger into adulthood. It's a refreshingly honest admission that gives Cha Cha Slide a surprising emotional weight without sacrificing the duo's unmistakable personality. Musically, Massive Champion appears set to broaden the scope established on Crisps. Where that cult favourite thrived on kitchen-sink observations, wonky disco grooves and irresistible DIY charm, these new songs hint at a record that's prepared to look inward. Law has suggested the album wrestles with self-pity and the idea that all that "healing your inner child" talk might not be complete nonsense after all, while also acknowledging the band's desire to clean up their act both lyrically and musically. Thankfully, none of that newfound maturity comes at the expense of their eccentric streak. The video for Cha Cha Slide, complete with a giant Minion dancing on a windswept cliff edge, remains gloriously ridiculous, providing exactly the sort of visual curveball fans have come to expect. It's the perfect reminder that vulnerability and absurdity don't have to exist in separate worlds. Massive Champion arrives on August 14 via Breakfast Records, following a whirlwind few years that have seen Getdown Services evolve from cult heroes into one of Britain's most compelling underground live acts. Fresh from appearances at Harry Styles' Meltdown Festival and with festival slots at Latitude, Green Man and Truck Festival, the pair will head out on an extensive UK and Ireland headline tour later this year, culminating in two homecoming shows at Bristol Beacon. If Cha Cha Slide is any indication, Massive Champion won't simply build on Crisps—it could be the record that transforms Getdown Services from cult favourites into one of Britain's most distinctive alternative success stories.
