Friday night at the Moth Club in front of a packed crowd who sang along every word of your songs with warmth and love at their ‘Fall Again’ EP launch party, it’s a great start to the weekend for Silvertwin.
Silvertwin have no management, no label and no PR and yet here is a room full of people in one of the cooler parts of London loving their music. My introduction to Silvertwin was by chance when Isaac, the silky toned lead singer, showed up on my tiktok feed singing a cover of Squeeze’s ‘Up The Junction’. It drew me in straight away and I’ve been hooked since then. He’s also doing a lot of tiktok live, taking requests, and I think that’s how many of us first found our way to the band and their own material. The Moth Club in London opened in 1972 as a social space for ex service men, based around three concepts: true comradeship, mutual help, and sound memory. It still does all that but now also is a live music venue since it was taken over by LNZRT and refurbished in 2015. The venue was struggling and needed investment so the takeover served a dual purpose, the continuation of the club and its activities on the site and a new cosy grass roots music venue for everyone. There has been some worry recently, developers are planning to build new apartments right next door and people are worried that there will be complaints about the noise that will ultimately result in restrictions or closure of the venue. Hackney Council have recently stated in a letter that this will not be the case and that they will support the venue. This gig was the launch event of Silvertwin's latest EP, ‘Fall Again’, released that day. They kicked off the night with one of the stand out tracks from it, ‘Its only Magic’. They performed the whole ep, interspersing the tracks with songs from their eponymously titled 2021 album. It’s the tracks on the Silvertwin album that got everyone singing along. Check out the tiktok from the gig, just search ‘Silvertwin’ and you’ll see what I mean. ‘Promises’, ‘You only’, and ‘Ploy’ from the album and ‘If that’s love I don't want it’, ‘ Fall again’ and ‘Good to you’ from the EP, the latter performed as a quieter solo by Issac, were the crowd favorites. Silvertwin’s sound is quoted as sitting “at the intersection of indie-rock, power pop, classic 70s melodies and the British New Wave.”, “Raised on classic pop songwriting, Isaac Shalam aspires to write songs that feel like the soundtrack to your life.” - wearesilvertwin.com.
