Squeeze is an English rock band formed in London in 1974 by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. Renowned for witty, literate lyrics and catchy melodic hooks, they became a leading act of the British new wave scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their early singles, such as Cool for Cats and Up the Junction, helped establish their distinctive sound, and the 1981 album East Side Story produced the beloved track Tempted. Over the years the lineup changed many times, but Difford and Tilbrook remained the band's core creative force. After periods of hiatus, they re-formed with new musicians and continued to release music and tour, earning a devoted following and influencing a generation of songwriter-performers.
