System Of A Down

System of a Down is an American rock band formed in Glendale, California, in 1994. The band consists of lead vocalist Serj Tankian, guitarist and vocalist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan. Known for their unique fusion of metal, punk, and Armenian folk music influences, System of a Down rose to prominence in the early 2000s with their politically charged lyrics and genre-defying sound. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1998, which quickly earned them a dedicated fan base and set the stage for their breakthrough. In 2001, they released their second album, Toxicity, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and included hits such as "Chop Suey," "Toxicity," and "Aerials." The album's success established System of a Down as one of the most distinctive and influential bands of the decade. System of a Down continued their success with the release of the albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize in 2005, both of which also debuted at number one. Despite their popularity and acclaim, the band went on hiatus in 2006, allowing members to pursue individual projects. They reunited in 2010 for live performances and have since continued to tour intermittently. In 2020, they released two new songs, "Protect the Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz," their first new music in 15 years, in response to conflict in Armenia and to raise awareness of political issues affecting their homeland. System of a Down is known not only for their dynamic musical style but also for their activism and outspoken views, particularly regarding human rights and the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Their impact on alternative metal and hard rock continues to be felt worldwide.
