BABYMETAL

BABYMETAL

BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii metal band that blends elements of heavy metal with J-pop sensibilities. Formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, BABYMETAL quickly gained international recognition for their unique fusion of musical genres, elaborate choreography, and theatrical live performances. The original lineup consisted of Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal), Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal), and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal). Su-metal serves as the main vocalist, while Yuimetal and Moametal performed vocals and dance as the duo known collectively as the "Twin Angels." Their music mixes high-octane metal riffs with pop melodies and themes drawn from Japanese culture and fantasy. BABYMETAL released their self-titled debut album in 2014, which featured viral hits like "Gimme Chocolate!!" and helped the group gain a massive following worldwide. Their innovative style caught the attention of metal veterans and fans alike, leading to collaborations and tours with artists such as Rob Halford of Judas Priest, DragonForce, and Korn. In 2016, they released their second album, "Metal Resistance," which further solidified their place in the global music scene. Notably, they became the first Japanese band to headline the Wembley Arena in London. Their third studio album, "Metal Galaxy," was released in 2019 and showcased an even broader range of musical influences while continuing their narrative of a mystical universe governed by the Fox God. Yuimetal officially left the group in 2018, and since then, BABYMETAL has functioned primarily as a duo with rotating support performers. They continue to evolve in both sound and concept, maintaining their enigmatic identity and captivating performances. BABYMETAL remains a boundary-pushing act in the global music scene, bringing together fans from diverse musical backgrounds and cultures while challenging traditional genre conventions.
