We Are Scientists

We Are Scientists is an American indie rock band that formed in Berkeley, California, in 2000. The founding members—Keith Murray (vocals, guitar), Chris Cain (bass), and Michael Tapper (drums)—met while attending college and soon began performing locally. The band moved to New York City in the early 2000s, where they gained attention for their energetic live shows and clever, often humorous approach to interviews and publicity. Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut major-label album "With Love and Squalor" in 2005. The record, which featured hit singles like "Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt" and "The Great Escape," earned critical acclaim and commercial success, especially in the United Kingdom, where the band cultivated a strong fan base. Following the departure of Tapper in 2007, the band's lineup evolved, but Murray and Cain remained the core duo. They continued to release albums, including "Brain Thrust Mastery" in 2008, "Barbara" in 2010, and "TV en Français" in 2014, all of which showcased their blend of infectious melodies, sharp lyrics, and a distinctive sense of humor. We Are Scientists have maintained a loyal following through their consistent output, engaging videos, and comedic promotional content. Their later work, including albums like "Megaplex" (2018) and "Huffy" (2021), reflects their growth as musicians while staying true to the upbeat, guitar-driven sound that first brought them fame. Known for their witty banter and DIY ethos, We Are Scientists continue to tour internationally and are celebrated as one of the enduring bands of the 2000s indie rock movement.
