Garbage

Garbage is an alternative rock band formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1993. The group consists of Scottish lead singer Shirley Manson and American musicians Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig. Vig, already a renowned music producer known for his work on Nirvana's "Nevermind," co-founded the band with the goal of creating a blend of rock, electronic, and pop influences. Garbage gained immediate attention with their self-titled debut album released in 1995. The album spawned several hit singles including "Stupid Girl" and "Only Happy When It Rains," which received heavy radio and MTV airplay. Their unique sound, combining grunge-inspired guitars, electronic elements, and dark, introspective lyrics, set them apart from many of their contemporaries and earned them critical and commercial success. Their second album, "Version 2.0," was released in 1998 and was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards. Tracks such as "Push It" and "I Think I'm Paranoid" further solidified the band's status in the alternative rock scene. Although the early 2000s brought periods of hiatus and internal struggles, Garbage has continued to release music and tour. Later albums like "Beautiful Garbage," "Bleed Like Me," and "Not Your Kind of People" displayed the band’s evolving sound while maintaining their signature edge. In 2021, they released "No Gods No Masters," which explored social and political themes more directly than previous works. Over the decades, Garbage has maintained a dedicated fan base and is recognized for their innovative production, strong lyrical themes, and Manson’s commanding presence as a frontwoman. They remain influential figures in alternative rock and continue to perform and record new music.
