Ghost is a Swedish rock band formed in Linköping in 2006. Known for their theatrical stage presence and enigmatic image, the band quickly gained attention for blending heavy metal with melodic pop influences. Ghost is led by a frontman known by the stage persona "Papa Emeritus," a character that has evolved through various incarnations over the years, each portrayed by Tobias Forge, the band's mastermind and primary songwriter. Forge's identity was initially kept secret, adding to the band’s mystique. The group's backing musicians, known as the Nameless Ghouls, perform anonymously, dressed in identical costumes and silver masks. Ghost released their debut album, *Opus Eponymous*, in 2010, receiving critical acclaim for its retro sound reminiscent of 1970s rock and occult themes. They continued to gain popularity with albums such as *Infestissumam* (2013), *Meliora* (2015), and *Prequelle* (2018), with their 2015 hit "Cirice" winning a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. Ghost is recognized not only for its music but for its elaborate live performances, which combine elements of rock concerts and church rituals. By incorporating satire, religious imagery, and a constantly evolving narrative, Ghost has established a unique identity in the world of rock and metal music. As of the early 2020s, the band continues to tour globally and release new music, maintaining both critical and commercial success.
