Julien Baker

Julien Baker is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for her emotionally raw lyrics and hauntingly sparse sound. Born on September 29, 1995, in Germantown, Tennessee, Baker began playing music at a young age and was deeply influenced by punk, emo, and Christian music. She gained attention with her solo debut album *Sprained Ankle* in 2015, a deeply confessional record that explored themes of addiction, faith, and mental health. Baker followed up with *Turn Out the Lights* in 2017, which further established her as a powerful voice in indie rock. Her third album, *Little Oblivions*, released in 2021, marked a shift to a fuller sound with more instrumentation while retaining the emotional intensity of her earlier work. In addition to her solo career, she is also a member of the indie supergroup boygenius, alongside Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus. Open about her queer identity and struggles with sobriety and religion, Baker has become an important figure for listeners who connect with her honesty and vulnerability. Her work often grapples with the complexities of belief, self-doubt, and redemption.
