Bon Iver
Bon Iver is an American indie folk band founded in 2006 by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. The name "Bon Iver" is derived from the French phrase "bon hiver," meaning "good winter," a nod to the cold, secluded period Vernon spent in a Wisconsin cabin where he recorded the band's debut album. Their first album, *For Emma, Forever Ago*, was independently released in 2007 and later re-released by Jagjaguwar in 2008. The album received critical acclaim for its raw emotionality and minimalist sound, showcasing Vernon's haunting vocals and introspective songwriting. It included the breakout single "Skinny Love," which garnered international attention and established Bon Iver as a significant force in indie music. In 2011, Bon Iver released their self-titled second album, *Bon Iver, Bon Iver*, which marked a shift toward a more expansive, orchestral sound. The album won two Grammy Awards in 2012, including Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album, solidifying their influence in contemporary music. Subsequent albums, including *22, A Million* (2016) and *i,i* (2019), further pushed the boundaries of genre, incorporating elements of electronic music, jazz, and experimental pop.
