The Neighbourhood
The Neighbourhood is an American alternative rock band that formed in Newbury Park, California, in 2011. The group was founded by vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Mikey Margott, and drummer Brandon Fried. Known for their moody aesthetic and genre-blending sound, The Neighbourhood combines elements of alternative rock, indie pop, R&B, and electronic music. They gained widespread recognition with their debut single "Sweater Weather," released in 2012, which became a commercial success and topped the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The track was featured on their first studio album, *I Love You.*, released in 2013. The album helped establish their signature black-and-white visual branding and melancholic yet melodic sound. The Neighbourhood continued to evolve with subsequent releases, including the 2015 mixtape *#000000 & #FFFFFF* and their second studio album *Wiped Out!* later that year. These projects showcased their growing experimentation with hip-hop and electronic influences. In 2018, the band released their self-titled third studio album, *The Neighbourhood*, which further solidified their reputation for pushing genre boundaries. Their 2020 album *Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones* marked a stylistic shift, featuring a glammier, more conceptual approach led by Jesse Rutherford's alter ego Chip Chrome. Throughout their career, The Neighbourhood has built a devoted fan base and remained a distinct presence in the alternative music scene, known for their atmospheric sound, introspective lyrics, and consistent visual identity.
