Nirvana
Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Known as pioneers of the grunge movement, the band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, with drummer Dave Grohl joining in 1990. Nirvana emerged as one of the most influential and iconic bands of the 1990s and played a key role in bringing alternative rock to mainstream audiences. The band released their first album, *Bleach*, in 1989 on the independent label Sub Pop, but it was their 1991 sophomore album, *Nevermind*, that catapulted them to global fame. Featuring the anthemic single "Smells Like Teen Spirit," *Nevermind* became a cultural phenomenon, selling millions of copies and defining the sound of a generation. With Cobain's raw, emotive songwriting, the band's music combined loud, distorted guitar riffs with introspective and often anguished lyrics. Their third studio album, *In Utero*, released in 1993, showcased a darker and more abrasive sound. Despite its less polished production, it was another critical and commercial success. Nirvana's meteoric rise came to an abrupt end in 1994 when Kurt Cobain died at the age of 27. His death marked the band's dissolution and solidified Nirvana's legacy as one of rock music's most important acts. Despite their relatively short career, Nirvana's influence continues to resonate through their music, which remains timeless for fans across the globe.
