Placebo is an English alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal. They built a reputation for a moody, guitar-driven sound that blends glam, punk, and shoegaze influences, as well as Molko’s androgynous stage presence. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1996, spawned singles like Nancy Boy and Bruise Pristine. They achieved wider recognition with the 1998 album Without You I’m Nothing, which included the hit Every You Every Me. Follow-up records such as Sleeping with Ghosts (2003) and Meds (2006) further established their profile, and they have continued to release music and tour, with Molko and Olsdal as the core members despite lineup changes on drums and other positions. Placebo remains one of the defining English-language alt-rock acts of their era.
