Shinedown is an American rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 by singer Brent Smith. The group, which over time solidified around Smith with guitarist Zach Myers, drummer Barry Kerch, and bassist Eric Bass, built its early reputation with the 2003 debut album Leave a Whisper. They broke into mainstream success with The Sound of Madness (2008), anchored by the hit single Second Chance. Subsequent albums—Amaryllis (2012), Threat to Survival (2015), Attention Attention (2018), and Planet Zero (2022)—established Shinedown as one of rock’s enduring acts, known for hard-hitting songs, soaring melodies, and high-energy live performances. The band continues to record and tour, maintaining a large global fanbase.
