Midge Ure

Midge Ure, born James Ure on October 4, 1953 in Cambuslang, Scotland, is a Scottish musician and songwriter best known for his work with Ultravox and his pivotal role in Band Aid. He first gained fame in the 1970s with Slik, then played with the Rich Kids before joining Ultravox in 1979. As frontman and guitarist, he helped steer Ultravox toward a synth-pop sound with hits like Vienna (1980), Hymn (1982), and Dancing with Tears in My Eyes (1984). He also pursued a solo career, scoring the UK hit If I Was in 1985. In 1984 he co-wrote and helped organize the Band Aid charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas? and the Live Aid initiative. Ure has remained active in music, continuing to perform with Ultravox and on various projects.
