Foo Fighters is an American rock band formed in 1994 by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl in Seattle, Washington. It began as Grohl’s home-recorded project after Nirvana’s breakup, named after the WWII term for unidentified flying objects. The self-titled debut album, released in 1995, was largely Grohl’s work, with the project expanding into a full band over time. They rose to international fame with The Colour and the Shape (1997) and became known for high-energy shows and hits like Everlong and Learn to Fly. Over the years they released a string of successful albums and earned multiple Grammy Awards. Drummer Taylor Hawkins joined in 1997 and remained with the group until his death in 2022; Josh Freese became their drummer in 2023. In 2023 they released But Here We Are, their first studio album since Hawkins’s passing, continuing to tour and record under Grohl’s leadership. Foo Fighters are widely regarded as one of the defining rock acts of their generation.
