He was raised in the Los Angeles area in a musical family—his father, Ronald Bruner Sr., is a jazz drummer, and his brother Ronald Bruner Jr. is also a drummer—names that helped shape his versatile approach. Rising to prominence as a core figure in the Brainfeeder collective led by Flying Lotus, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists across jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music, including Kendrick Lamar. As a solo artist, he has released The Golden Age of the Apocalypse (2006), Drunk (2017), and It Is What It Is (2020), earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic yet melodic bass playing, inventive arrangements, and expressive vocal work.
