The original Darklands was released on November 9, 1987, in the UK and on November 10, 1987, in the US. The album reached a peak position of 5 on the UK Albums Chart and 57 on the US Billboard 200. It was released under the Blanco y Negro Records label in the UK and Reprise Records in the US. The recording took place at Blackwing Studios in London, and it was produced by Joe Foster and the band themselves. The expanded version includes additional tracks and remastered sound, offering fans deeper insight into the band's evolving sound during the late 1980s.
