Few rappers inhabit a persona as completely as Rick Ross. Two decades into his career, the Miami heavyweight remains devoted to the larger-than-life mythology that has defined his catalogue, and Set In Stone rarely strays from the blueprint. It's another opulent collection of luxury rap, where designer labels, superyachts and underworld folklore collide over immaculately polished production. Ross' greatest strength has always been his ear for beats, and that's once again the album's biggest asset. Caviar Bumps glides in on glossy, retro-inspired production, while Ring Around The Rolls pairs soulful textures with a welcome appearance from YFN Lucci. The sumptuous Maybach Music VII delivers exactly the grandeur fans expect from the long-running series, elevated further by standout contributions from Jeezy and Don Toliver. Elsewhere, Diamonds Never Die is effortlessly luxurious, with Ball Greezy helping to lift the track beyond its familiar formula. Not every idea lands. Tracks like Porsche GT3 and Face Down lack the ambition of Ross' finest moments, while some of the lyrical excess drifts into self-parody. Yet when the production sparkles and Ross settles into his unmistakable drawl, the formula remains undeniably effective. It may not reach the heights of Port Of Miami 2, but Set In Stone delivers enough lavish escapism to remind listeners why Rozay remains one of hip-hop's most enduring personalities.
