The album features a selection of the band's most popular singles released between 2001 and 2011, including tracks from their first three studio albums: *Gorillaz* (2001), *Demon Days* (2005), and *Plastic Beach* (2010), as well as the standalone single "Doncamatic". The album was released by Parlophone in the UK and Virgin Records in the US, both part of EMI at the time. It achieved a peak chart position of number 19 on the UK Albums Chart and number 60 on the US Billboard 200. Recording took place in various studios over the span of a decade, including the band's Kong Studios (a fictional studio location) and real studios such as 13 in London.
