More Chaos

Ken Carson

Review

Ken Carson's latest offering "More Chaos" lives up to its title, delivering a dizzying sonic landscape that both expands upon and refines the Atlanta rapper's distinctive brand of rage music. Building on the foundations laid by his previous projects, Carson constructs an album that feels simultaneously more ambitious and more focused. The production throughout is characteristically maximalist – distorted bass lines thunder beneath shimmering, ethereal synths, creating the perfect backdrop for Carson's half-sung, half-screamed vocal performances. What's particularly striking about "More Chaos" is Carson's growing confidence as a vocalist. Where earlier work sometimes found him struggling to stand out against the bombastic production, here he commands each track with authority, sliding effortlessly between melodic passages and aggressive outbursts. Thematically, the album treads familiar territory – luxury goods, romantic entanglements, and the trappings of fame – but Carson approaches these subjects with newfound introspection. There are moments of vulnerability nestled between the braggadocio that hint at a more mature artist emerging. The guest features are judiciously chosen, complementing rather than overshadowing Carson's vision. The chemistry with his collaborators feels organic, creating some of the album's most memorable moments. "More Chaos" isn't perfect – some tracks blend together, and occasionally Carson falls back on familiar formulas – but it represents a significant step forward for an artist who continues to push the boundaries of what rage music can be. For both dedicated fans and newcomers to Ken Carson's universe, this album offers plenty to discover and dissect.
